The Milwaukee County Council of the Boy Scouts Learning for Life program and the Badger State Science & Engineering Fair (BSSEF) organization announce a partnership to take Wisconsin high school aged children interested in furthering their science, technology, engineering or math talents to the next level.
The Learning for Life program offers seven programs designed to support schools and community-based organizations in their efforts to prepare youth to successfully handle the complexities of contemporary society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-esteem. The seven programs focus on character development and career education. Learning for Life programs help youth develop social and life skills, assist in character and career development, and help youth formulate positive personal values. It prepares youth to make ethical decisions that will help them achieve their full potential. This program are delivered by two methods; the Instructional setting that utilize curriculum for grade K-12 as well as a component for Special Needs and the Work site based program (Exploring) that give high school aged youth hands on career experiences. The Badger State Science and Engineering Fair (BSSEF) is dedicated to inspiring enthusiasm for science research among Wisconsin high school students and is proud to announce the addition of four (4) regional science fairs in 2007; Kenosha, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, and Waukesha. The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is sponsored by INTEL and has been administered by Science Service since its inception in 1950; a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and appreciation of science among people of all ages. 2007-2008 FAIR KICKOFF |
Madison, Wisconsin – September 21, 2007 The Badger State Science & Engineering Fair (BSSEF) organization kicked off the 2007-2008 science fair season with an Awareness Event at the Blackhawk Country Club in Shorewood Hills on September 21, 2007. The organization, dedicated to inspiring enthusiasm for science research among Wisconsin high school students, had an extremely successful 2006-2007 fair year with Wisconsin’s own Phillip Streich from Platteville taking grand prize at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
BSSEF is proud to announce the addition of five (5) regional science fairs; Kenosha, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, Waukesha, and Western Wisconsin bringing Wisconsin’s regional fair sites to seven (7). The science fair season culminates with the Badger State Science & Engineering Fair at Marquette University March 15, 2008. BSSEF also is proud to announce our presenting sponsor; GE Healthcare. ISEF WINNER
Milwaukee, Wisconsin - June 14, 2007 Wisconsin student tops over 1500 of the world brightest teenagers from 51 countries and bringing home international top honors. Top winner, Philip Vidal Streich, 16, a pupil from Platteville, Wisconsin had a great week at The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) sponsored by INTEL held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Students advance from their local, regional, state and national science fairs to attend ISEF.
Philip’s project for ‘Determining Carbon Nanotubes' Thermodynamic Solubility: The Missing Link to a Practical Supermaterial?’ received the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award granting a $50,000 scholarship. The highest award bestowed by ISEF. He also received an ISEF Top First Place Winner Best in Category Award of $5,000, a laptop and a $1,000 grant to the Badger State Science and Engineering Fair (Philip’s hometown affiliated fair) in his honor. In addition, Philip’s project was awarded the ISEF Best in Category First Award of $3,000 in chemistry. From the military awards, Philip took home the United States Air Force First Award $3,000, the United States Army US Savings Bond valued at $3,000, and a Certificate of Achievement, and Gold Medallion. From Sandia National Laboratories he received the Best Application of Nanotechnology Award of $2,500; and the AVS Science and Technology Society, New Mexico chapter Second Award of $500. In addition, Philip received the American Chemical Society Third Place Award of $2,000, the China Association for Science and Technology Award of a trip to China’s Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest in August, the Patent and Trademark Office Society’s Second Award of $250, the United Technologies Corporation Excellence in Science and Engineering of UTC Stock with estimated $2,000 value, and the MIT Lincoln Laboratory will name a minor planet after Philip.
Spencer Wolf Greaves, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, received a fourth place award of $500 for his project “Development of a Rocket Launched Parafoil Controlled Aerial Imaging Platform’ in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering category.
